If This Tree Could Talk

It would  speak of its complexity and longevity;
Of its resilience in the hands of time,
Of its armour and the fissured curves of its woody stem.

If this tree could talk,

It would speak of the dreary seasons;
Of the undignifying moment its folliage shedded in Autumn,
Of husky, ghostly winds and wintery showers,
And the softness of falling snow flakes.

If this tree could talk,

It would speak of the sun;
Of warm rays of light feeding its entire being,
Of squirrels nibbling on nuts,
And insects ascending and descending.

If this tree could talk,

It would speak of secret melodies sung in its canopy;
Of birds gossiping on its branches,
Of lovers fondling underneath its shade.

If this tree could talk,

It would speak of unimaginable tales;
Of  love, friendships, battles and tragedies,
Of religions, myths and Folklore.

If this tree could talk,
It would tell you that yesterday we were there;
Of the loudness of our laughters,
Of our infectious joy,
And how high-up we got on its roped tire swing.

If this tree could talk,
It would give itself a beautiful name.

  1. Absolutely wonderful! I tend to like ‘portraits” of trees in general, but the poem paired with the images is fantastic! Thanks for sharing this! 🙂

  2. glad you liked it, thanks John.
