MUSIC FRIDAY: Tamar Braxton – “Love and War”

I cannot believe that it is Friday already. The weather has been  appalling, with temperatures dropping bellow freezing across the country; in fact, it is snowing at this instant!

I have been listening to a variety of music all week; from the 80’s Congolese  singer Mpongo Love (1956 – 1990), South Africa’s iconic Miriam Makeba (1932 – 2008) to Josephine Baker (1906 – 1975).  However my anthem of the week would have to be Tamar Braxton’s “Love and War”, which I have had on constant  blast replay . I must admit that her official anticipated video  released on Thursday 17th Janyary 2013 leaves a lot to be desired. I am a little disappointed because the video does not, in my opinion, reflect the storyline and lacks in energy. Who edited this video anyways? What’s going on with all the random cuts? What led to him packing his bags? I see the “LOVE” but where is the “WAR”? In addition, Tamar’s reserved, effortless rendition had me sitting at the edge of my sit waiting for her to break out of her shell into a performance à la Beyonce (see here).

Music video aside, her talent is undeniable, the vocals are unquestionable and the song is simply beautifully sung. For this reason, it  remains my Friday night jam. 🙂

As Tamar would say: “She; meaning Her, DID that! BOOM!

I hope you all have a great weekend.
